Education

I am a second year History major going into UCR with 3.7 GPA. I have been studying through RCC in their study abroad program in Dublin, Ireland for the last semester to gain a great cultural experience while learning my specialty of History and Politics from a European perspective.

Experience

I have studied multiple courses in History, Politics, Psychology, Religious studies, Philosophy, Anthropology and many of its disciplines to state a few. I wanted to really absorb the opportunity of broad education that community college has especially because of the price. Many of my professors are well known and published such Dr. Tolunay-Ryan, Dr. Grey and Archaeologist David Cheetham among others. I have never professionally tutored, but I used to volunteer to tutor elementary, middle and high school students during my Junior and senior years of high school. I also would helped students in my college classes for free during our breaks and would help to prep them for tests or difficult assignments as well as proof reading their essays. I want to teach college History and have strong interests in the above mentioned topics as well and because of this passion I was advised to pursue tutoring as a pre-courser to my career choice. I have always found that I learn and retain best when I'm sharing my knowledge. Often when I do this I come across questions that challenge my though processes and even make me reformulate my ideas; that's why I love teaching, it's a two way street.

Hobbies

I have always been a bit of a nerdy kid, but in the last few years I have melded that shy and studious boy with the beginnings of worldly, extroverted and confident man. I was very smart my whole life, but was cripplingly lazy in my first half of high school. I failed horribly in freshman year and gained a learned helplessness. I would have fallen completely if not for my supportive teachers, faculty and college friends who aided me and believed in me even when they had no justification to do so. My teachers challenged my thoughts and instead of feeling stupid when I got a wrong answer I felt invigorated to discover the correct answer. They taught me not to be ashamed of ignorance because it can't be helped until you learn something new and I have kept that with me ever since. I understand what its like to struggle and fail, I failed math for years and barely passed with enough to graduate, but since then I have taken it upon myself to get my own education. I have been taking a math course five days a week for about six months now and have progressed far beyond my high school limitations. That is the essence of education, self-improvement and if I can help anyone improve themselves I will have lived a happy life. Its why I want to teach, I want others to grow as I have and find their passions in life. My grandfather told me that when it comes to a career you must find the thing you love to talk about and do every day and make a career out of it, for me that was History and people. I hope to help you fulfil your needs and educational goals. I am more than just a tutor, I am a resource and a friend, I hope you can benefit from me. If you want some good sites to help with education i would recommended these as study tools. https://www.youtube.com/user/crashcourse This site is comprised of quick and fun 10 min. educational courses that cover a variety of the sciences, history, and government. It's not as great as a real lesson, but is a great study tool especially for people who have a hard time concentrating on studies. https://www.khanacademy.org/ This site is something I use daily for my math studies and is an amazing site for not only study help, but self-education in general. It has helped me a lot and I hope it will help you. Both are 100% free :)
